Understanding your Personality Type
The way I use instruments like the MBTI® and FIRO-B® is as a window, not a cage. I realize that sometimes personality instruments are used to put people into boxes or cages, and use them as if they define limits. That's not my understanding or practice!
For me, instruments like this help give you critical insights into your own needs and preferences, especially when interacting with others. They are just another way of saying a bit about what you need and like. And our needs and preferences do shape our choices and the perceptions of others. The instruments give us some language to use in exploring these -- what you make of it all is really up to you. Possibilities are increased, not cut off. And of course, no instrument can fully define you -- I realize that, and see them just as tools or shortcuts for talking about what's really important for you, how you'd like to live and work.
I use these instruments with clients to explore strengths, values, communication styles, teamwork preferences, interpersonal needs and behaviors in relationships and the working world. Depending on what support you're looking for or challenges you're facing, different instruments or feedback approaches will be appropriate. So get in touch with me by email to let me know what you're looking for, and we can find a package of online assessments and feedback sessions that will meet your needs.
